MII Announces 2007 Statistics

China’s Ministry of Information Industry (MII) has released its full-year 2007 telecom industry statistics. Telecom revenues totaled RMB 728 bln (USD 98 bln), up 10.9% YoY.

Mobile subscribers grew by 86 mln in 2007, pushing the total above 547 mln, and increasing mobile teledensity to 41.6%. Over 592 bln SMS were sent during the year, representing a 37.9% YoY increase.

The fixed-line (including PHS) user base shrank by 2.3 mln to 365 mln, dropping fixed-line teledensity to 27.8%.
