Head of China Mobile’s (NYSE: CHL; 0941.HK) Beijing branch, He Ning, has indicated that a real-name registration system is to be implemented this year for the Shenzhouxing prepay brand, with SIM card purchasers required to show identification cards.
Beijing Mobile is also investigating the possibility of limiting the number of phone numbers registered to a single identification card to three. Users would be able to deregister a number by visiting a Beijing Mobile service outlet, and then purchase a further number if necessary. This scheme, if rolled out, would cover all mobile users.
2008 will also see Beijing Mobile offer a free bill analysis service, which will recommend monthly packages based on a subscriber’s quarterly usage of incoming and outgoing calls and SMS.
